Students showcase innovative researches

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY. The University gym was filled to the brim on March 29, 2017 with equipment, tools and products from researches conducted by students of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Cagayan de Oro and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.

The USTP Brand of Education, as the exhibit was called, featured the innovative student researches that can be considered for mass production or with commercial value.

Cluster 1 was composed of the College of Science and Technology Education (CSTE) and College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) with 16 entries. Cluster 2 was composed of the College of Technology (CoT), College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) and USTP Jasaan with 28 entries. On the other hand, Cluster 3 was composed of 38 entries from the College of Information Technology and Computing (CITC).

Each cluster had three judges coming from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and different professional groups in engineering and technology.

Dr. Victoria O. Sumanpan, Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs of USTP Cagayan de Oro, affirmed in her message that the University will pursue on a regular basis the production of innovative researches across the different disciplines from the undergraduate to the graduate level.

The pronouncement was reiterated by Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation of USTP Cagayan de Oro, in his message that USTP will continue to encourage the innovative spirit among students by conducting annual research exhibits that are competitive in nature. In this manner, the University will be able to produce creative and innovative thinkers who can become thought leaders and solution providers for the economic development and growth of the community.

The exhibit was also attended by Atty. Dionel O. Albina, Director for Research and Innovation, and the different college deans of USTP Cagayan de Oro.
