Advancing Filipinnovation: USTP takes center stage at NorMinRIPE 2024

The University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP) participated in the recent Northern Mindanao Regional Innovation Program and Exhibit (NorMinRIPE) 2024 in celebration of National Innovation Day in Northern Mindanao on April 22-24, 2024. The three-day program and exhibit showcased innovation players in the region at SM City CDO Uptown, Cagayan de Oro City.

Experts and innovative leaders from across the region gathered in NorMinRIPE to showcase the rich innovation landscape of Northern Mindanao and unlock its untapped potential. Under the theme “Reshaping the Future, Advancing Filipinnovation in Region X,” the event was led by institutions including the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber), and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).
NORMINRIPE also served as a platform to foster collaboration and address barriers to innovation. NEDA Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariรฑo, CESO III, highlighted the event’s significance in generating ideas for policy support and program adoption by government agencies and industry bodies.

Among the USTP offices that participated in the event were the Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO), Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC), CDO b.i.t.e.s., Northern Mindanao Metals and Engineering and Innovation Center (NorMMEIC), and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET). USTP is part of the Technical Working Group, which helped prepare for the event.
National Innovation Day is an event celebrated every year in pursuance to Republic Act 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act of 2024, which declared April 21 of every year as National Innovation Day (NID), a special working public holiday to promote and highlight government and private sector initiatives on innovation.

Engr. Christian Alison of CDO b.i.t.e.s. took the lead during the InnoVenture: Startup Pitch Challenge. InnoVenture is a competition among regional startups and a platform for entrepreneurs to present proposals to potential investors.
During the Afternoon Insight Sessions, Ms. Monica Ruiz, Assistant Professor of the USTP – IGIS, shares the impact of integrating Technopreneurship in the curriculum of USTP.
Engr. Dweena Maye V. Zamora of USTP Jasaan is the project leader of the 2023 Innovation Fund which helped establish the Fabrication Laboratory for Hull Research.
