Claveria, Misamis Oriental – A student at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Claveria is the first-ever winner of the National Painting Contest sponsored by the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Marvin M. Jumalon, 22, a fourth-year Bachelor in Agricultural Technology (BAT) student bested six (6) other competitors nationwide. The theme of the competition is “Paghahayupan, Kabuhayang May-ani at Kita Kahit Pandemya.”
Jumalon’s painting highlights the importance of raising livestock and poultry animals aside from growing crops. The interrelationship of these components provides farmers with livelihood amidst the challenging pandemic.
The result of the contest was announced during the opening program of the National Livestock and Poultry Month on October 4, 2021, via Zoom.

The criterion for judging is 20% for public support via Facebook likes and reactions and 80% for the technical aspect depicting the painting’s masterpiece.
The second-place winner is Aldren N. Quintana (Entry # 6) of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro while the third-place winner is Christian Cadlaon (Entry #3) of Alaminos, Pangasinan.
Aside from a certificate of awards, all three winners will receive cash prizes.
