The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is making significant progress towards transforming Misamis Oriental into a hub of innovation and development by establishing the AGILA Science and Technology (S&T) Park. Located in Barangay Lourdes, Alubijid, and covering parts of Libertad and Gitagum, this 292-hectare development includes the USTP Main Campus. It is set to become a premier site for research, entrepreneurship, and education in the Philippines.

Strategic Location

Situated strategically in Northern Mindanao, often called the Gateway to Mindanao, the AGILA S&T Park offers unparalleled locational advantages. It lies 15.2 kilometers from the Laguindingan International Airport and 37.4 kilometers from Cagayan de Oro City, making it easily accessible to industries, academic institutions, and government agencies.

Vision for the Future

The AGILA S&T Park is envisioned as:

  • A Nexus for Innovation and Entrepreneurship – Promoting a culture of socio-economic transformation and sustained economic growth in the Philippines.

  • A Prime Ecotourism and Natural Laboratory University – Championing biodiversity stewardship while fostering a deep connection with nature.

  • A Sustainable Ecosystem for Stakeholders – Offering state-of-the-art infrastructure and support services for entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, and scientists.

A Hub for Learning and Research

The USTP Main Campus will serve as a cornerstone of the park, housing academic programs such as Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. These programs aim to produce highly skilled professionals in engineering, software development, environmental management, and data analysis, contributing to the workforce in Northern Mindanao and beyond.

Infrastructure Development

The park’s development is guided by a well-thought-out master plan, with funding mechanisms tailored for infrastructure investments and entrepreneurial projects. Highlights of the initial phase include establishing the Project Management Office (PMO), a research and development center, classrooms, dormitories, and a cutting-edge ICITES (Innovation and Collaboration in Information Technology, Engineering, and Science) building.

Eco-friendly features such as a 15-kilowatt solar energy system and a self-sufficient water supply will also be integrated, aligning the development with sustainable and climate-resilient practices.

Progress and Engagement

The USTP S&T Parks Management Committee, chaired by USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, is actively working with local government units (LGUs) and stakeholders to ensure the success of this transformative project. Courtesy visits to Alubijid, Gitagum, and Laguindingan, as well as visioning workshops, have laid a solid foundation for the park’s master planning process.

Inviting Partners for a Shared Vision

USTP believes that the success of AGILA S&T Park is deeply rooted in collaboration with visionary partners dedicated to fostering innovation and progress. USTP actively seeks dynamic partnerships with private companies, government agencies, and international organizations to maximize the park’s potential.

USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II shared the University’s direction on innovation and investment for economic growth during the 2024 Science and Technology Parks Forum, dubbed as IGNITE, participated by representatives from the academe, industries, and government agencies on November 5, 2024.

The AGILA S&T Park offers an exceptional opportunity for businesses and agencies to invest in a transformative project that resonates with their aspirations for advancing research, development, and economic growth. Partners can engage in various impactful ways, such as funding vital infrastructure projects, investing in groundbreaking research programs, or establishing state-of-the-art innovation hubs within the park.

Organizations collaborating with USTP will access a vibrant ecosystem brimming with talent, innovative ideas, and essential resources. This partnership boosts their mission and plays a crucial role in shaping a leading science and technology park in the Philippines.

A Landmark of Innovation

The AGILA Science and Technology Park is a testament to the University’s dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration among the academe, industry, and government. It will drive socio-economic transformation, serve as a model for biodiversity stewardship, and create a sustainable ecosystem for future generations.

The rise of this pioneering Science and Technology Park signals a bright future for innovation and progress in Northern Mindanao and the entire country.
