Through the collaborative efforts of faculty and students, a team from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro City (USTP CDO) triumphed in the 18th Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) 2024 competition, organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). The event was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College (OLOPSC) in Marikina City, Metro Manila.

The team’s entry, the Automated Incident and Detection Assistance (AIDA) mobile and web application, was awarded the championship in the Technology Category. This winning project will be presented at a business conference with members of the PCCI and investors at the Marriott Hotel, Metro Manila, on October 22, 2024.

AIDA was developed by a group of 4th-year Information Technology students from the College of Information Technology and Computing (CITC) at USTP CDO: Yul Jhon O. Jaranilla, Christian R. Macatangay, Nap Carlo L. Baclayon, and Randulf G. Fantonia.

The application is designed to assist the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in validating and classifying fire and vehicular accidents in El Salvador City. By leveraging artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, the AIDA system has reduced accident reporting time from 5-15 minutes to just 10-30 seconds.

The judges were impressed by the students’ technical expertise in developing the mobile and web application, particularly the integration of computer vision technology. They also commended the Department of Information Technology faculty members at USTP CDO for their guidance and support throughout the development of the AIDA project.

Congratulations, Trailblazers!
