Alumni triumphs against students in USTP Volleyball Championship

In a spirited display of sportsmanship and camaraderie dubbed as the “Ultimate Showdown,” the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental’s (USTP Claveria) Volleyball Championship witnessed an intense showdown between the institution’s alumni and current students held at the local government unit’s gymnasium on March 2, 2024. The volleyball game is part of the 2024 Claveria Fiesta Celebration.

The event brought together players eager to showcase their skills and honor the University in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere.
From the onset, the covered court buzzed with excitement as the whistle marked the beginning of the highly anticipated match. Both teams delivered a performance worthy of the occasion, trading powerful hits, strategic blocks, and precise sets to claim victory.
The students, fuelled by youth, exuberance, and determination, launched a relentless attack against their seasoned alumni counterparts. However, the alumni, drawing upon their years of experience and expertise, countered with strategic plays and impeccable execution, showcasing the skills that had once made them champions during their time at USTP.
In the end, the alumni team emerged victorious, displaying a combination of skills, teamwork, and determination that proved too much for the students to overcome. Standout performances from individual alumni players also earned them recognition, with Mark Andrew Bahian being awarded as the “Best Spiker,” Diodel Quirino as the “Best Blocker,” Jones Pante as the “Best Libero,” and Edzel Macahilig as both the “Best Settler” and “Most Valuable Player.”
As the final whistle blew, players shook hands in mutual respect, highlighting the true essence of the USTP spirit.
