The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) and Cagayan de Oro Business Incubation Technology Entrepreneurship and Startups (CDO b.i.t.e.s) conducted the Sparktrack: Incubation Program – Cohort 8 Start Up Incubatees Onboarding Program on October 11, 2024 at the Performance Art Theater (PAT), College of Engineering and Architecture Building of USTP CDO.

Engr. Diogenes A. Pascua, OIC-TBI Manager of the CDO b.i.t.e.s., formally welcomed the newest batch of entrepreneurs and innovators encouraging participants to focus on solving real problems and to fall in love with the problem rather than the solution.

He highlighted the strong support of USTP and commitment to its vision for the entrepreneurial path. He warmly congratulated the incubatees for their significant journey as they started the incubation program.

The Start-Up Journey

The incubators will use the Cohort 8 Learning Management System (LMS)  through a padlet, where they can upload their deliverables.

There will be three (3) tailor-made stages for the entire incubation period;

  • Sparktrack – 1-month pre-incubation period consisting of educational programs to validate and further develop the incubatees’ startup businesses.
  • Fire Starter – the 8-month long, main incubation program consists of mentorship by industry experts with tailor-made modules. Only 8 out of 15 incubates will advance in this stage.
  • Beacon Demo Day – the last stage in which all aspiring incubatees will have an investment-ready presentation to the industry partners.

For the first time since starting the program, CDO b.i.t.e.s. will let incubatees choose their mentors to strengthen their business production in the incubation stage.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) also signified the startups’ commitment to invest and develop their ideas fully.

The event invited successful alumni from Cohort 6 who highlighted the impact of the program, namely Ms. Melody Paurillo, Founder of KaHero; Mr. Joever Monceda, Founder of PointersBit Inc.; and Mr. Dennis Ivan Chavez, Founder of Fresco-Greenovations, sharing their inspiring and valuable experiences that had fully impacted and transformed their ideas both nationally and internationally and highlighting the role of CDO b.i.t.e.s. in their successes.

Engr. Christian Rey M. Allison, Assistant TBI Manager of CDO b.i.t.e.s., formally delivered his closing message announcing that the first session for the Sparktrack stage will begin on October 16, 2024. He added that Sparktrack incubatees that failed to advance in the Fire Starter stage would automatically be alumni of the program in which they have provided slots when they apply for incubation again.

The incubation program reflects the USTP’s strong vision of pushing boundaries for innovation and continues to challenge the status quo. CDO b.i.t.e.s. is committed to bringing this vision into reality by honing these startups that can leverage and impact the community.
