In line with its commitment to promoting a supportive and inclusive academic space for everyone, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), through its Extension and Community Relations Division (ECRD) in USTP Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO), has established two essential facilities: the Child Minding and Gender and Development (GAD) Resource Center and the Lactation Room. These facilities are designed to support the needs of student-parents and lactating mothers, ensuring they get support while doing their studies and jobs.

Child Minding Center: A Safe Space for Young Learners

The Child Minding and Gender and Development (GAD) Resource Center, launched on March 28, 2022, offers a safe and engaging space for children aged 3 to 8 while their parents attend classes or work. This initiative aims to help lessen student-parents or working mothers’ struggles and enable them to continue their studies or work at the University.

To enroll a child in the center, student-parents or working mothers are required to submit the following:

  • Certificate of Registration (COR) for students (if applicable)
  • Photocopy of the child’s Birth Certificate
  • 2×2 ID picture (white background)
  • Proof of complete vaccination for parents/students

The Child Minding and Gender and Development (GAD) Resource Center reflects USTP’s steadfastness in creating an academic environment that supports education and family life.

Lactation Room: A Comfortable Space for Lactating Mothers

Established on March 21, 2024, the Lactation Room gives lactating mothers a comfortable and private environment. This initiative underscores USTP’s commitment to Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives, reflecting its drive for inclusivity for all university stakeholders.

This facility provides help to lactating mothers where they can feel at ease while caring for their children.

Commitment to an Inclusive Learning Environment

Beyond facilities, the Child Minding Center and Lactation Room exemplify USTP’s dedication to fostering an inclusive, student-centered learning environment. The university assures that education remains equitable, accessible, and empowering for all the members of its academic community by providing support for student-parents, working mothers, and lactating mothers.
