The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) has achieved a significant milestone by introducing its first patent invention, the Quick Roast Griller, granted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). This revolutionary cooking device, designed to transform the grilling experience, embodies the spirit of innovation and excellence that USTP promotes among its engineers and students.

The Quick Roast Griller

The cutting-edge invention utilizes a jet aspirator to draw hot gases from a combustion chamber into a griller tube, thereby cooking meat or poultry from both the exterior and interior.

Processing starts when fuel is burned in the combustion chamber, generating heat and hot gases, and then the blower supplies air to the jet aspirator, creating a vacuum. The vacuum releases hot gases from the combustion chamber into the griller tube. The hot gases heat the meat or poultry both externally and internally.

Significance of the Invention

The invention and its simultaneous internal and external heating acceleration will fasten the cooking process, resulting in an even texture of the meat for improved flavor. It is also energy-efficient because hot gases inside are used more effectively than traditional grilling methods.

The Quick Roast Griller was registered at IPOPHL for the invention patent grant. Leading the registration is Engr. Gladdy Christie H. Compasan, the Innovation and Technology Support Unit Manager of the USTP Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO).

On May 29, 2024, IPOPHIL granted USTP its first invention patent grant for the Quick Roast Griller under patent number 050296. This patent is valid until June 16, 2041.

Invention and Beyond

The invention will aim to leverage its cooking process, and many industries can benefit from it, such as the meat and poultry food industry. With this invention, Engr. Kenneth James Bryle Magsayo, inventor of the Quick Roast Griller, reaffirms his commitment as an engineer and inventor who truly holds the university values.

The Quick Roast Griller enhances cooking efficiency and highlights the university’s commitment to fostering creativity and technological advancement.
