The Leadership Development Program (LDP), organized by the Office of the USTP System President, brought together the top and middle management leaders of the University on July 11-12, 2024 at the Riverview Event Center, Taguanao, Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City. This capacitation program is part of the ongoing efforts of the Office of the USTP System President to further advance the University Administration’s 7-Point Agenda, coined as D-Y-N-A-M-I-C. This is also particularly consistent with one of the University Administration’s priorities, especially in terms of Innovation, Digitalization, and Internationalization (IDI).
At the opening of the program, the USTP System President, Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, delivered a message encouraging all participants to grow as leaders ready for change. He remarked, “Together, let us therefore explore new possibilities; allow ourselves to learn from each other’s success and failures; and look forward to a better version of ourselves as leaders.”
The Management Committee and select officials of the USTP System participated in a two-day event with the theme “Leading the Future: Capacitating Management Committee for Digital Transformation in Global Science and Technology Collaboration.” The event provided an immersive experience, giving participants a deeper appreciation of leadership responsibilities and roles in the digital age as the University aims for global competitiveness.
As one of the participants, Atty. Michelle Bacarra, the Director for Legal Services of the USTP System, shared an insightful perspective: “If we are not competent, we are not adaptive to the dynamic change of information technology. How can we teach or lead those under our leadership?”
This year’s LDP featured the resource speaker, Dr. Mark Lemuel L. Garcia, Vice President of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) sa Mindanao, who discussed a series of insightful sessions and interactive workshops. The first day focused on the discussions and workshops on Innovation and Digitalization, Digital Transformation in Global Science and Technology, as well as Harnessing Digital Technologies for Research Collaboration. On the second day, he led the discussions on Ethical Leadership in Digital Innovation, Building Digital Innovation Ecosystems and Industry Partnerships, and Navigating Digital Disruptions and Uncertainties.
Dr. Garcia emphasized that AI is here to stay. He also underscored that to pursue digital transformation, AI should be appropriately regulated in university processes and that leaders must remain adaptable to emerging trends to maintain relevance within a constantly evolving global landscape.
