In celebration of Environment Month in June 2024, under the RA 9003 Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and as part of the university’s Clean Act Campaign, the Pollution Control Section (PCS) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) led a proper waste segregation initiative.
The initiative consisted of a series of Clean Act Campaign: Waste Segregation Activities for the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2023-2024. It began on May 21, 2024, and concluded on June 8, 2024.
This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology and the Department of Science Education, teaching general education courses, particularly the Science, Technology, and Society (STS) course, and the Environmental Science (Envi Sci) course.
A total of 1,558 students participated in hands-on activities focused on proper segregation to address the growing problem of solid waste and to combat climate change.
The collaborative efforts of the PCS and the faculty aim to inspire the community to be environmentally aware and to take action against environmental harm. Moreover, they seek for USTP Trailblazers to embody the motto We Clean, We Campaign, We are Part of the Change.
