PCW-NMFO, USTP GAD culminate NWM 2024 through #WEcanbeEquALL Information Drive

The Philippine Commission on Women—Northern Mindanao Field Office (PCW-NMFO) and the Gender and Development (GAD) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) culminated and featured #WEcanbeEquALL Information Drive: Lecture and Exhibit Series.
Various esteemed speakers from PCW-NMFO’s partnered agencies in Region X, such as the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) X, Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Misamis Oriental, Commission on Human Rights (CHR) X, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) X, Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Unit (PNP RACU) X, and Bureau of Treasury X (BTr) – MisOr shared their expertise about the issues concerning women and gender inequality.
The morning’s session highlighted the different women-related laws and topics such as RA 9262: Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004; RA 11862: Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022; Safe Spaces Act; Prohibition on Child Marriage Law; and Cultural Sensitivity. To formally end the morning session, Dr. Maria Teresa M. Fajardo, the USTP CDO GAD Focal Person, shared the importance of education in raising women’s rights and cultivating gender equality.
The afternoon continued with a Women’s Forum, organized to culminate the National Women’s Month celebration. Atty. Khay Ann C. Magundayao-Borlado, Philippine Commission on Women Officer-in-Charge, introduced the salient points of the afternoon lecture, particularly students’ concerns regarding gender-based sexual harassment (GBSH) in schools, featuring various topics on the prevention and handling of GBSH and women’s economic empowerment through financial literacy.
Dr. Lilia A. Cotejar, GAD Focal of CHED X, also provided an overview of the Guidelines on Gender-Based Sexual Harassment in HEIs based on CHED MO#3 s2022.
Representatives from Bukidnon State University (BukSU) and USTP CDO also shared their respective best practices and experiences in handling GBV cases or gender issues in schools.
The event concluded with the reading of the Commitment Statement from the different partners. Atty. Khristine Kay M. Lazarito-Calingin left an inspirational message of being part of the solution or catalysts of change and “dreaming one day that gender inequality becomes history.”
The lecture series and forums were held at the Performing Arts Theatre, USTP CDO, and were attended by the Grade 12 Senior High School students and College of Science and Mathematics undergraduate students of USTP CDO.
Simultaneously, a series of exhibits on gender-based violence were launched. With its featured exhibits, #RespetoNaman Don’t Tell Me How to Dress and #HowInequalityLooksLike build on the #METoo Movement. Women and children across the globe are coming together for the #MeToo Movement to challenge sexual assault and harassment. The exhibits will run from March 22–27, 2024, at the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) Building USTP CDO.
