Pioneering Tradition: USTP Oroquieta holds historic Joint Pinning for BSIT and BTLED

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) marked a significant milestone on February 1, 2025, with its first-ever joint pinning ceremony. The event, held at the ASENSO Misamis Occidental Culture and Sports Center, Oroquieta City, brought together graduating students from both programs as they embarked on their internship journeys as pre-service teachers and on-the-job training (OJT) students.

The day began with a special mass at Holy Rosary Parish, presided over by Rev. Fr. Edgar S. Canama, with Rev. Fr. Ariel Egao, who blessed the students and offered words of encouragement. The ceremony officially commenced at 1:00 PM with a heartfelt welcoming address by Prof. Ma. Liberty B. Doncillo, Head of USTP Oroquieta Academic Affairs, who emphasized the significance of the historic collaborative event.

In the afternoon, guest speakers delivered inspiring messages, each offering unique perspectives on entering and navigating the professional world.
Mr. Daryl Jay V. Limutin, Information Systems Analyst from the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region X (DILG Region X), spoke to the BSIT students, highlighting the high demand for skilled IT professionals and offering insights into the job market. His address encouraged students and provided a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges in their field.

Mr. Steve I. Embang, Assistant Professor III and Head of the Research and Development Unit at Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST), addressed the BTLED students, offering advice on preparation, building strong relationships, and practicing self-care. His guidance resonated with the future educators, providing practical tips for their internships.
The event concluded with an inspiring message from Prof. Bernardo T. Crisologo, who expressed gratitude to the students, parents, faculty, and guests. The ceremony culminated in a beautiful song performed by the students themselves, serving as a testament to their gratitude for the support from their parents and the university.
The first-ever joint pinning ceremony for BSIT and BTLED students from USTP Oroquieta stood as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and the advancement of its students.
