Recognizing Excellence: USTP educators qualify for 2025 Metrobank National Awards for Teachers

Two faculty members of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) are among the National Qualifiers in the Higher Education category of the prestigious 2025 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos Award for Teachers.

Dr. Angelo Mark P. Walag of the College of Science and Technology Education (CSTE) and Dr. Francis Thaise A. Cimene of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) of USTP Cagayan de Oro are among the 11 qualifiers nationwide.

The Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos is “a career-service award that looks into the entire professional career of the person—all their accomplishments and services rendered, whether big or small, done while in the line of duty and even beyond, from the moment they started working up to the present time.”

As National Qualifiers, Dr. Walag and Dr. Cimene will proceed to the Preliminary Judging Phase of the competition.

This recognition is in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (DepEd), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank), Rotary Club Makati Metro, and Rotary New Manila East.
