Love was truly felt in the air at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Panaon as the Supreme Student Council (SSC) took the lead in organizing an unforgettable Valentine’s Day celebration last February 14, 2024. Steering away from traditional norms, the SSC embraced creativity and inclusivity, organizing various activities to cater to diverse interests.
One of the standout features of the event was the Blood Donation Drive. The drive was in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross Misamis Occidental – Oroquieta City Chapter, where faculty, staff, and students gave in to pain to save the lives of others.
The “Blindate” initiated by the Organization of Marine Conservationists and Ecologists upholding Academic Excellence and Noble Research Works (OCEAN) and the “Love Chain Booth” by the Sustainable and Achievable Broadcasting with Unbiased Goals (SABUAG), brought out the “kilig” and excitement, wherein students were randomly paired up for blind dates to promote friendship and camaraderie. The initiatives aimed to break the ice, fostering new connections and emphasizing the importance of platonic relationships during the season of love.
The Marine Biology rooms were transformed by the Future Educators’ Guild (FEG) into a lively space featuring a movie marathon, where students enjoyed watching romantic and feel-good films with their friends and loved ones.
Adding a touch of humor and whimsy to the celebration, a “Wedding Booth” was set up by the E-Theatro, where students playfully posed for mock wedding photos with their friends or significant others. The booth became popular as students seized the opportunity to capture hilarious and heartwarming moments. Photo booths were also installed by the League of Information Technologists (LIT) to capture sweet moments during the celebration.
The festivities continued as the SSC organized various games, ensuring something for everyone. From interactive board games to heart-pounding outdoor activities, the games provided a platform for students to engage in friendly competition and laughter.
The Valentine’s Day celebration orchestrated by the SSC brought joy and excitement to USTP Panaon. It showcased the council’s commitment to fostering all forms of love and connections and continuing to establish a more vibrant and inclusive campus community.
