The University City Scholars (UCS) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro City (USTP CDO) celebrated the successful completion of the grow house and the planting of seedlings with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Project 3K on July 17, 2024, at the back of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) building.
Project 3K: Angat sa Kakayahan, Kaalaman, at Kabuhayan para sa Scholars na Anak ng Solo Parent is an initiative by UCS – USTP. It targets USTP scholars under the care of solo parents. The project offers training in three areas: Kakayahan (skills), Kaalaman (knowledge), and Kabuhayan (livelihood).
Through partnerships with the Center of Human Development, Gulayan sa Kabayan (GSK) CDO, local government units (LGUs), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), UCS reached at least five scholars, providing them with knowledge, skills, and livelihood prospects in hydroponic urban farming.
The presence of distinguished guests, including the USTP CDO Chancellor Atty. Dionel O. Albina, was a testament to the strong support for the project. The university’s emphasis on sustainable learning, renewable resources, and the interconnection between sustainable development and social progress reassures us of a bright and sustainable future.
This event serves as a beacon of hope, highlighting the unwavering commitment of UCS-USTP to sustainable development. It is a testament to the university’s dedication to enriching the lives of its students, particularly those from single-parent households, and their relentless efforts to overcome the challenges they face.
