September 27, 2024 – The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and Bay River College in Alberta, Canada, have officially formed a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), via Zoom.

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, President of the USTP System, and Mr. Arshad Mahmood, President of Bay River College, announced the partnership and shared their commitment to providing a vital link between higher education institutions earlier today. The partnership will serve as a testament to further leveraging the University’s goal of enhancing learning opportunities for students and faculty.

To realize this partnership, USTP will focus on advancing knowledge and enhancing the curriculum in computer studies, engineering, natural and social sciences, business administration, and related fields through its various colleges. Bay River College will contribute its expertise in cybersecurity, information technology, environmental science, environmental engineering, social work, and hospitality management, synergizing both institutions’ strengths.

These two contracts, the MOU and the MOA, outline the responsibilities of each party. The MOU, a three-year partnership, focuses on academic cooperation in research, curriculum development, joint activities like workshops and lectures, and shared intellectual property rights. The MOA, on the other hand, details USTP’s responsibility for coordinating academic activities and issuing certificates to guest lecturers, while Bay River College will provide expert faculty for workshops in areas such as cybersecurity, environmental engineering, and hospitality management, and assist in reviewing USTP’s programs for industry relevance.

The Office of the International Affairs of the USTP System facilitated the event.
