USTP, Bestfriend Goodies partner to commercialize nutritious chayote cookie innovation

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) has formed a significant partnership with Bestfriend Goodies, Co. through a Technology Outright Sale Agreement on November 5, 2024. This collaboration aims to transfer and commercialize USTP’s innovative technology for Chayote Cookies.
USTP and Bestfriend Goodies, Co. officially formalized the agreement during the 2024 Science and Technology Parks Forum, dubbed IGNITE and themed Fuel Innovation Ecosystem Growth for Sustainable Development, participated by representatives from the academe, industries, and government agencies at the Chali Resort and Conference Center in Cagayan de Oro City.
Chayote cookies, formulated using USTP’s proprietary technology, offer a healthy and delicious snack option, showcasing the university’s dedication to utilizing scientific advancements for community benefit.
USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, representing USTP, formalized an agreement that highlights the university’s commitment to advancing food technology and supporting local industries.
The Chief Operating Officer of Bestfriend Goodies, Co. Ms. Nenita M. Tan, signed the agreement on behalf of the company, demonstrating their dedication to bringing this unique product to market.

Witnesses present during the signing included Dr. Vanessa A. Garcia, Director of the Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO) of the USTP System, and Engr. Bronson G. Mabuhay, Consultant of Bestfriend Goodies, Co.
Under this agreement, USTP will provide technical support, training, and consulting services to ensure the product’s successful production and quality maintenance. Bestfriend Goodies will manage the production and distribution of the cookies, extending this nutritious innovation to a broader consumer base.
This partnership between USTP and Bestfriend Goodies, Co. continues their successful collaboration. Previously, the two organizations established four Technology Licensing Agreements (TLAs) to implement various food technologies developed by the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC).
On July 16, 2021, USTP and Bestfriend Goodies, Co. signed four (4) Technology Licensing Agreements for the adoption of food technologies developed by the NMFIC.
This collaboration underscores USTP’s commitment to technology transfer and industry partnership, promoting local entrepreneurship and innovation while contributing to community development.
