USTP CDO student clinches 1st place in PSA E-Oratorical Contest

Kyla Tiffany Javier, a third-year Food Technology student of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro City (USTP CDO), secured first place in the E-Oratorical Competition hosted by the Philippine Statistics Office (PSA) Region X. This competition is part of the PSA’s 35th National Statistics Month. The awarding ceremony was held at Hamersons Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City on October 29, 2024. 

This year’s theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” highlighted the crucial role of technology in enhancing the statistical system for better accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility.  Ms. Kyla proudly represented USTP with the guidance of Ms. Angielyn S. Caipang from the Communication Arts, Languages, and Literature (CALL) department of USTP CDO.

Reflecting on her experience, Kyla shared, “In my presentation, I focused on the importance of statistics, how to utilize data, and digitizing statistics to help our country address modern world issues.” She also expressed pride in representing the BS in Food Technology program and the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), emphasizing that students are not limited by their program and can excel in various fields, too.

The event showcases PSA’s commitment to engaging the youth in understanding the significance of statistics in the digital era and serves as an opportunity for USTP to present its competencies in the data and statistics field as a leading institution of Science and Technology.
