USTP celebrates Teachers’ Day with Heartfelt Tributes and Enriching Activities

October 9, 2024 – The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) gathered faculty, staff, and students for a meaningful Teachers’ Day celebration at the Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras (DRER) Memorial Hall, USTP Cagayan de Oro with the theme: Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.”

Dr. Antonio-Abdu Sami M. Magomnang, President of the Faculty Association (FA) of USTP CDO, welcomed attendees, emphasizing teachers’ role as the backbone of the university’s mission and growth, and highlighting their commitment to education and academic excellence. Dr. Maria Angeles D. Hinosolango, FA Secretary, presented approved resolutions and the membership form, reinforcing the association’s dedication to enhancing faculty welfare and collaboration.

Key Discussions and Presentations

The Business Proper segment addressed critical topics for faculty development, covering key agenda items such as:

  • Proposed Revision of the Constitution and By-Laws
  • Guidelines on Faculty Overload Rates
  • DBM-CHED Joint Circular No. 3 – “Guidelines on the Reclassification of Faculty Positions in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)” 
Tribute to Teachers

The celebration continued with a tribute to the faculty, recognizing their invaluable contributions as educators through performances, messages, and activities dedicated to honoring their hard work. To further extend the celebration, faculty members were treated to complimentary services such as manicures, stylish haircuts, relaxing massages, and complimentary flowing coffee, creating a delightful experience for them.

Atty. Dionel O. Albina, USTP CDO Chancellor, addressed the faculty, sharing heartfelt words of appreciation and encouragement. He reflected on meaningful experiences and expressed gratitude for the dedication and impact of the faculty, emphasizing their invaluable role in the university’s success and growth.

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, University System President, congratulated the Faculty Association and sincerely thanked the faculty for their invaluable contributions to the university. He shared inspiring experiences and emphasized the essential role of teachers. Dr. Cultura also highlighted that students come from diverse backgrounds, making it important for the faculty to empathize with their experiences. 

Another segment of the celebration is the showcase of talents from various USTP campuses and colleges, celebrating the diversity and creativity of the faculty. The event concluded with a unity dance, fostering camaraderie among attendees.

Wrapping up the program was the announcement of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) as the winner, earning a well-deserved recognition for their outstanding presentation.

This year’s celebration honored the dedication and passion of the USTP educators while fostering a renewed sense of unity and purpose, underscoring the vital role of teachers’ voices in shaping a brighter future for education.
