USTP Claveria celebrates heritage and tradition in a vibrant Cultural Night

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) held a spectacular Cultural Night Presentation on February 9, 2025, at the Municipal Covered Court, Claveria. The event showcased a variety of vibrant festival dances, celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Dr. Renato O. Arazo, Chancellor of USTP Claveria, emphasized that the event aimed to promote cultural appreciation, artistic excellence, and the preservation of Filipino traditions.
“This Cultural Night not only celebrates our rich cultural heritage but also fosters creativity and unity among our students, faculty, and staff,” Dr. Arazo said.
Hon. Kag. Jovita O. Balangiao, SB Committee Chair on Tourism, gave an inspiring message on behalf of the Local Government Unit of Claveria during the night’s event.

The performances featured USTP Claveria students under the guidance of faculty mentors headed by Arts and Culture (ARCU) Director Mr. Ramil C. Pagon. The Cultural and Performing Arts Group included dances inspired by renowned Philippine festivals. These included Philippine Folk Dances performed by the College of Agriculture, Muslim Dance by the Kalasi Dance Troupe, and the Maskara Festival performed by the College of Engineering and Technology.
Other performances included the Higalaay Festival by the College of Arts and Sciences and a Novelty Dance by the Administration Team. Each group wore designed costumes, reflecting the cultural significance of the festivals they portrayed. The night concluded with a grand finale featuring a unified dance by all participating groups.
USTP Claveria students set the stage ablaze with an electrifying opening number, marking the start of the Cultural Night.
Melodies and Culture in Harmony – USTP Claveria’s top vocalists showcase their exceptional talent, complementing the vibrant festival dances with heartfelt renditions that celebrate Filipino artistry and tradition.
USTP Claveria’s Cultural Showcase – the Philippine Folk Dances, performed by the College of Agriculture bring to life the Lapay Bantigue Folk Dance, a traditional dance from Masbate, as part of the university’s grand Festival Dance presentation.
Grace and Royalty in Motion – USTP Claveria performers captivate the audience with the enchanting Muslim Dance and Senekal, showcasing the elegance, rhythm, and rich cultural heritage of Mindanao’s Muslim traditions during the Cultural Night Presentation in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. The Muslim Dance was performed with grace and reverence by the Kalasi Dance Troupe.
Burst of Colors and Smiles – The College of Engineering and Technology USTP Claveria performers light up the stage with the vibrant and energetic Maskara Festival Dance, captivating the audience with their elaborate masks and lively choreography during the Cultural Night presentation.
A Tribute to the City of Golden Friendship – The stage radiates with joy and vibrant energy as the USTP Claveria College of Arts and Sciences dancers perform the Higalaay Festival Dance, symbolizing unity, gratitude, and strong community ties.
Laughter and Dance in Perfect Harmony – The stage comes alive as Novelty Dance - Administration dancers showcase the Novelty Festival Dance, combining humor, unique movements, and lively music to delight the crowd.
A Spectacular Grand Finale – USTP Claveria performers take the stage for a breathtaking conclusion, uniting all festival dances in a vibrant and powerful Grand Finale Dance during the Cultural Night Presentation.
The event was attended by university officials, faculty, staff, students, and guests from the Claveria community. The performance received an enthusiastic response from the audience, imprinting a lasting impression and reinforcing USTP Claveria’s commitment to cultural advocacy and education.
