The students, faculty, and staff of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) Claveria participated in the earthquake drill conducted on the morning of November 9, 2023.
The purpose of the drill was to prepare the school community for a potential earthquake and to teach its members the proper safety procedures to follow in case such a disaster occurs. The drill also aimed to raise awareness about the importance of earthquake preparedness and ensure that everyone in the school community knows what to do in an emergency.
The drill was a success, with everyone in the school community participating and following the proper safety procedures. By simulating an actual earthquake, the students, faculty, and staff quickly dropped to the ground, took cover under sturdy desks and tables, and held on until the shaking stopped.
According to Ms. Fides Joy N. Pabua, the USTP Claveria School Nurse, the drill was an essential step in ensuring the safety of everyone in the school community. “We take the safety of our students, faculty, and staff very seriously, and we want to make sure that everyone knows what to do in case of an earthquake.”
The USTP Claveria campus plans to conduct more earthquake drills to raise awareness about earthquake preparedness and ensure that everyone in the school community is prepared for emergencies.
The activity is pursuant to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRMMC) Memorandum No. 6, s. 2023, highlighting the quarterly conduct of the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for CY 2023.
