To improve health and nutrition among grade school children, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 10 launched the school-based feeding program for the entire region on November 7, 2022, in collaboration with the National Dairy Authority (NDA) Region 10. This program’s primary goal is to provide fresh milk as a supplement to the hot meals served to children in schools.
The Gatas 955 Milk Processing Plant of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental was chosen to supply milk to the Municipality of Claveria, which is made up of three School Districts with a total of 1,973 elementary undernourished students
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to extend help and work with the kids through USTP Claveria Gatas 955. On behalf of USTP Claveria Gatas 955 Milk Processing Plant, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to DepEd Region 10 and NDA Region 10 for their trust, and looking forward to future collaborations with USTP Claveria,” said Ms. Hazel Falcon Salaum, Manager, Gatas 955 USTP Claveria.
During the event, Gatas 955 of USTP Claveria successfully distributed milk to the recipient schools, including Claveria Central School in Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
“The DA has continued their partnership with the NDA, DepEd 10, and USTP Claveria, including local government units and civic society organizations that are willing to sponsor similar milk feeding programs in their respective areas to benefit more Filipino children,” Ms. Salaum added.
