On April 15, 2024, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria), in partnership with the Student Movement for Christ International (SMCI), organized the You’re Worth Waiting For seminar at the Campus Function Hall, 3rd Floor of the Administration Building of USTP Claveria.
The seminar was conducted as part of the Health and Wellness Week of USTP Claveria and was aimed at all first-year students. It was designed to educate the students on why premarital sex is not healthy and can lead to teenage pregnancy.
The seminar began with a lecture on the scientific and biblical reasons why premarital sex is unhealthy, both physically and spiritually. SMCI facilitated the activity with a participatory approach, where facilitators asked for volunteers from the students to participate in their activities and presented scenarios to help them understand the consequences of engaging in premarital sex.
Students actively participated in the discussion and even assessed whether it was okay to do things in a hurry. They were reminded that, as students, their main focus should be on their studies. The event concluded with a Purity Pledge, where students had a form to fill out and sign to remind them they are worth waiting for.
