USTP Claveria hosts SP x USTP Learning Express Program

On March 5, 2024, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, one of its major campuses, played host to an exciting collaboration between the USTP and Singapore Polytechnic, kicking off the Learning Express Program (LeX).
Learning Express (LeX) Participants from Singapore Polytechnic and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) posed together with dignitaries and USTP System key officials during the Opening Program, March 5, 2024, at the 3rd Floor Function Hall, USTP Claveria Administration Building.
The event held at the Function Hall on the 3rd floor of the USTP Administration Building marked the beginning of a two-week collaboration aimed at fostering social innovation and cross-cultural exchange through community immersion.
In his welcome remarks, Engr. Erich P. Abad, USTP Cagayan de Oro Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services (VCSAS), expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and highlighted the importance of strengthening linkages between higher educational institutions.
The program brought together students and teachers from both Singapore and the Philippines to address real-life challenges faced by communities through innovative solutions.
Hon. Meraluna Salvaleon-Abrogar, in her message, emphasized the significance of tourism development and the improvement of the water system within the community with the full support of Congressman Yevgeny “Bambi’ Emano and the Provincial Governor of Misamis Oriental, Gov.Peter Unabia. She expressed deep appreciation for the role of the Learning Express program in finding innovative solutions to these pressing issues, which are vital for sustainable growth and development in this part of the region.
Speaking on behalf of USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, Dr. Lory Liza D. Bulay-og, concurrent OIC of the Office of the USTP System Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and the Office of the USTP System Vice President for Global Engagements and Quality Assurance (VPGEQA), expressed full support for the LeX Program, highlighting the opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the local community and gain a deeper understanding of its social, economic, and political dynamics.
The USTP Claveria Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA), Dr. Dennis A. Yamuta, representing the USTP Claveria Chancellor, Dr. Renato O. Arazo, also expressed a warm welcome to all guests and delegates in attendance during the opening program.
Dr. Adiran Elangovan, the Learning Express facilitator from Singapore Polytechnic, shared insights into the program objectives and methodologies. Over the next two weeks, participants would work collaboratively to develop innovative prototype solutions to address community challenges, guided by the principles of empathy, ideation, and experimentation.
In closing, Dr. Maria Teresa Fajardo, Director of the USTP Cagayan de Oro Extension and Community Relations, expressed hopes for the participants to have a highly productive immersion experience in USTP Claveria and to create tangible, sustainable solutions that will positively impact the communities they serve.
