The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and the Department of Health Center for Health Development – Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM) solidified their commitment to future medical professionals by signing a Memorandum of Agreement on March 10, 2025, at the boardroom of USTP Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO).
The Doctor of Medicine Program of the College of Medicine (COM) requires students to undergo Observationship in Academic Medicine in public and private offices as an academic requirement. This exposure to actual work situations enhances their formal training.

With the MOA, USTP medical students will experience duties directly related to their chosen specializations, enhancing their knowledge and skills. Beyond the technical aspects, students will have the opportunity to network with professionals, broaden their exposure to various medical fields, and develop a deeper understanding of the crucial role of medical practitioners in society.

Key signatories of the MOA were Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II – USTP System President, and Dr. Sulpicio Henry M. Legaspi, Jr. MPH, FPSMS, CESO IV – DOH CHD-NM Director IV, underscoring the importance of the collaboration. Witnesses to the signing included Atty. Dionel O. Albina – USTP Cagayan de Oro Chancellor, Dr. Mitchell Dennis B. Gonzalez – USTP CDO Vice Chancellor for Medical and Allied Health Programs and Dean of the College of Medicine, and Ms. Geraldine M. Ebio – DOH Training Specialist II and OIC Head of the Human Resource Development Unit (HRDU). Representatives from both USTP and DOH CHD-NM attended the event.

This partnership embodies the University’s mission to integrate the “world of work” into higher education, ensuring students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the medical profession.
