The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental (USTP Jasaan), through its General Education Unit and Gender and Development (GAD) focal point, proudly joined the nation in celebrating National Women’s Month this March 2025. With the theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” the month-long celebration highlighted the significant contributions of women across various sectors in shaping a progressive and inclusive nation.

Faculty and staff actively participated in the Friday Synergy Exercises, a unique integration of wellness, empowerment, and camaraderie. Each Friday featured a unique theme aimed at promoting holistic well-being:

As part of the festivities, USTP Jasaan encouraged faculty, staff, and students to wear any shade of purple every Friday, symbolizing unity and support for women’s empowerment. Dubbed #PurpleFriday, this initiative reinforced the institution’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

March 7 – BRING AMUSEMENT: The first Friday kicked off with fun-filled activities that brought joy and laughter, setting a positive tone for the month’s celebration.

March 14 – BREATHE: Participants engaged in mindfulness and breathing exercises, promoting mental wellness and self-care, a crucial component of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

March 21 – APPRECIATE: The third Friday was dedicated to acts of affirmation and gratitude, where faculty and staff shared words of encouragement and appreciation, strengthening bonds within the USTP Jasaan community.

March 28 – EXERCISE: The last Friday emphasized physical wellness through movement activities, reinforcing the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

To encourage creativity and participation, USTP Jasaan will recognize the BEST SYNERGY EXERCISES IMPLEMENTER, an award given to the most innovative execution of the weekly themes.

Through these initiatives, USTP Jasaan not only celebrates HERstory but also champions the empowerment of women in achieving a healthier (SDG 3), educated (SDG 4), equal (SDG 5), economically inclusive (SDG 8), just (SDG 10), and peaceful society (SDG 16).

As National Women’s Month continues with its yearly observation, USTP Jasaan remains steadfast in promoting a culture where every woman’s voice, role, and contribution are valued and recognized. With #PurpleFriday, the university proves that gender empowerment is not just an event — it’s a movement.
