Consul General of Japan in Davao Yoshiaki Miwa facilitated the discussion in the Stakeholders Forum at the boardroom of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Cagayan de Oro on October 15, 2021, in line with the forthcoming Seeds and Needs Matching Seminar. The Seeds and Needs Matching Seminar aims to promote the output of the academe from research to the needs in the industry. This will come through inventions, technology transfer, adoption, and commercialization of technology.
USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II represented the academe while Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno represented the local government. Also in attendance were Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. President Ruben Vegafria representing the business sector, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA-10) Regional Director Mylah Faye Cariño, Department of Science and Technology (DOST-10) Regional Director Alfonso Alamban, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) OIC Provincial Director Almer Masillones and other government agencies.
Participants discuss the role of the stakeholders including the sustainability of the partnership
Cagayan de Oro and the Davao Region are considered growth areas in Mindanao that will promote the focal points of tripartite collaboration which includes the USTP Science and Technology Parks. Japanese companies will also be invited to the matching seminar.
The forthcoming Seeds and Needs Matching Seminar will provide a venue for dialogue and opportunities for cooperation between the industry and the academe.
