USTP Oroquieta joins inaugural 2025 Technology Transfer Conference

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) participated in the inaugural Technology Transfer Conference (TTC) 2025 on February 7, 2025, at Chali Resort and Conference Center, Cagayan de Oro City. The conference, hosted by the Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TPCO) of the USTP System, revolved around the theme: “Empowering Regional Innovation: Bridging Research, Industry, and Society for Smart Futures through Commercialization.” This event gathered industry leaders, academic professionals, and policymakers, underscoring the importance of moving research beyond theoretical concepts to practical applications through technology transfer.

Atty. Dionel O. Albina, USTP CDO Chancellor, opened the conference by emphasizing the importance of a strong support system to bolster industries and highlighted GRAM principles—Generosity, Respect, and Motivation—as keys to successful innovation. 

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, USTP System President, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering technology-driven collaborations for an innovative future. Dr. Venessa A. Garcia, USTP System TPCO Director, provided an overview of the conference’s objectives, stressing the significance of intellectual property and commercialization.

The keynote speakers stressed the need for dedicated technology transfer offices led by IP-savvy officers to promote innovation and commercialization. They also recognized technology transfer as a viable career path, requiring skills like IP knowledge, business acumen, and marketing expertise. Effective tech transfer demands focused attention, proper staffing, and a dedicated budget.

The TTC 2025 was a powerful testament to the university’s leadership in driving innovation and commercialization. With the accelerating collaborations between academia, industry, and government, the future of technology transfer in the Philippines appears bright, promising a wave of impactful solutions and economic growth.
