USTP Oroquieta wins 1st place at Intercampus Pitching Competition

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta), emerged victorious in the Intercampus Pitching Competition organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) of the USTP System. The competition, held at the USTP Oroquieta Smart Room on February 7, 2025, provided a platform for students from USTP Oroquieta and USTP Panaon to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas and technical expertise in developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

The competition was formally opened by Prof. Ma. Liberty B. Doncillo, the Academic Head of USTP Oroquieta, who emphasized the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in shaping future industry leaders. Prof. Doncillo encouraged students to continue developing creative and market-driven solutions that could address pressing challenges.

Winning Innovation: WasteLess – AI-Enhanced Expiration Tracking for Grocery Stores

The winning team, Quest4Inno, was composed of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students: Quenie Clarabal, James T. Lanzaderas, Lucilyn P. Climaco, and Iannel P. Tapay, with Ms. Marites D. Habagat, Instructor and ISO/Accreditation Coordinator at USTP Oroquieta, serving as their coach. Quest4Inno clinched first place with their groundbreaking project, WasteLess, an AI-enhanced expiration tracking system designed to help grocery stores reduce food waste, optimize inventory, and maximize sales of near-expiry products. WasteLess combines artificial intelligence with a consumer marketplace to enable retailers to take proactive measures before products expire, ensuring profitability and sustainability.

Several other teams from USTP Oroquieta also participated in the competition, showcasing their innovative solutions. Aqua Tech Click ‘N Reserve, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student group, focused on system-based innovations, integrating technology-driven solutions into their project. Cherish Harvest Co., presented by Bachelor of Food Processing and Technology students, highlighted sustainable and value-added innovations in food processing. Additionally, Smashers, another team from USTP Oroquieta, secured third place in the competition.

USTP Panaon also participated in the competition with two teams: Civic Tech Solutions and Certilink.

A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the teams using a comprehensive framework that considered innovation, feasibility, market potential, and overall impact. The judges included Mr. Shann Neil A. Yurong, Ms. Nadeth R. Leopoldo, and Ms. Christlyn P. Lumantas, who served as Chairman of the Board.

It also highlighted USTP’s role in developing future entrepreneurs and fostering collaboration across its system campuses to drive meaningful impact in various industries.
