The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon) held the Fireside Chat and Knowledge Sharing on Consumer Rights and Responsibilities Symposium in partnership with the Future Educators’ Guild (FEG) – USTP Panaon, participated by the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) students at the USTP Panaon Function Hall on February 11, 2025. The symposium provided a platform for students to deepen their understanding of their rights and obligations as consumers.
The discussion was led by Ms. Maritess B. Alcomporado, the Head of the Consumer Protection Division and a Senior Trade and Industry Specialist of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of Misamis Occidental.

Ms. Alcomporado emphasized that the most protected consumers know their rights and responsibilities well. She highlighted the importance of awareness in avoiding fraudulent transactions, ensuring product safety, and understanding consumer policies. The symposium concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which students eagerly posed questions such as, “How do consumer policies ensure that businesses prioritize the consumer’s welfare?” Ms. Alcomporado addressed each query comprehensively.

The symposium provided students with practical knowledge on how to effectively exercise their rights as consumers, furthering USTP’s vision of enhancing higher education through programs and symposiums.
