USTP Panaon forges MOA with DOST-PSTO, BFAR, Sinacaban LGU

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Oriental (USTP Panaon) forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on March 25, 2024, with the Department of Science and Technology-Provincial Science Technology Office (DOST-PSTO), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region X, Provincial Fishery Office (PFO) in Misamis Occidental, Deputized Fishery Warden of Sinacaban, and Local Government Unit of Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental, for the implementation of the DOST-CEST (Community Empowerment through Science and Technology) project.
The project, Utilization of DOST PCAARD Automatic Feeding Technology for Danggit and Bangus to Promote Sustainable and Productive Polyculture Production Livelihoods of Deputy Fish Warden (DFWs) in Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental, has a total funding of PhP 1,258,584.72. Ms. Marjho Mae S. Cardoza and project members Dr. Leny Q. Añasco, Ms. Liza H. Calvis, and Ms. Annielyn P. Lasagas of USTP Panaon will implement the project.
The project aims to capacitate DFWs in the polyculture of Bangus and Danggit in marine fish cages using DOST PCAAARD’s technology, increase municipal fishery production to address food security and expand income opportunities for the DFWs of Sinacaban.
DOST-PSTO in Misamis Occidental, as a collaborating agency, will provide technical support and monitoring. Meanwhile, the BFAR-Region X, through the PFO, will supply the milkfish (bangus) fingerlings and provide additional technical assistance.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sinacaban will help mobilize the Deputized Fish Wardens (DFW) as the project’s pilot beneficiaries. The LGU will also identify a suitable project site and ensure the undertaking’s overall success.
