USTP Panaon practice teachers join PAFTE Annual Regional Conference & Student Teachers’ Congress

On March 10, 2023, two (2) USTP Panaon practice teachers joined the Annual Regional Conference and Student Teachers’ Congress facilitated by the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) Region 10 at the Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro City.
Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) major in Home Economics student, Mardie C. Comique, and BTLEd Industrial Arts student, Luce Mae L. Dagandan, of USTP Panaon were selected to join the event, which celebrated the theme “Design Thinking and Inclusive Education in the New Normal: Its Perspectives, Opportunities, and Challenges.”
The event was attended by PAFTE and thirty-three (33) participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region 10 and featured the following guest speakers: Dr. Brenda B. Corpuz, Dr. Felima P. Espique, Dr. Freddie T. Bernal, Dr. Cherry Mae A. Limbaco, Ms. Marichor N. Empedrad, and Ms. Ma. Rhadora M. Santos.
PAFTE firstly discussed the basic rules on hiring and deployment of teacher positions by the Department of Education (DepED), which is relevant and timely in the preparation of graduating students who will take the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). DepED gave emphasis on the evaluation and selection procedures and criteria, stating that students should do great in their education as they will be rated in terms of the academic achievement in all subjects, with corresponding units included in the computations.
The Republic Act No. 8981, or the PRC Act of 2000, was next discussed by the Professional Regulation Commision (PRC), including its mandate, powers and functions, functions of the PRBs, and basic documentary requirements for LET. According to the PRC, names, date of birth, sex, citizenship, and pertinent data should be consistent with other requirements; if not, applicants should apply for correction in the documents. Defining minor errors in entries on birth certificates and TOR shall be acceptable and shall not be considered as deferred cases as mentioned in the PRC Resolution No. 2005-262, series of 2005.
Additionally, the guidelines on the evaluation of the educational qualifications of applicants for Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers-Secondary Level starting year 2023 onwards under resolution 34 series of 2022 stated that:
First time examinees who are graduates on non-education courses shall be admitted to the 2023 LEPT and the succeeding schedules thereof. Provided, that they have earned the prescribed units of the subjects required for and approved Major in the LEPT secondary level as set forth in the Enhanced Table of Specifications of Board Resolution no. 11 and CMO 75-2017, in addition to the other prescribed requirements.
During the application process, PRC warned applicants against fixers as appointment slots are free. Applicants filing online application for Licensure Examinations can access the PRC website through www.online.prc.gov.ph or www.prc.gov.ph and can choose among the payment options available: GCash, Maya, Land Bank, credit card or debit card, and proceed and submit all the requirements to the place of appointment on the scheduled date. The PRC also noted that applicants must ensure that in the application forms, all information is correct and the email address is active.
Finally, according to the Additional Guidelines in the Conduct of Licensure Examination due to COVID-19 Prevention and Control as per Memo Order No. 68 dated November 6, 2020, examinees should be vaccinated and shall bring the original and a copy of the vaccination card during the Licensure Examination.
The PAFTE National President Dr. Brenda B. Corpuz formally ended the morning session with her wrapped up message on inclusive education, highlighting that everyone has the right to education, no matter of color, economic status, race, nationality, and religion.
