USTP Panaon presents Innovative Seaweed Research at Southeast Asian Maritime Summit

Leading science, technology, and research, an esteemed faculty from the Marine Biology Department, Ms. Ayth D. Paragoso, represented the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon) at the 3rd SEA the Future: Southeast Asia’s Maritime Futures, an international conference held at the Grande Centre Point Space, Pattaya, Thailand on February 26-28, 2025.

The event was organized by the Faculty of International Maritime Studies, Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus, Thailand, in collaboration with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia; Faculty of Maritime Studies, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia; and SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu, India. 

The conference served as the venue to foster knowledge from different parts of the world and practice international collaboration to promote safer shipping environments, smarter shipping technologies, and sustainable use of ocean resources.

Highlighting USTP’s Research Contribution

Ms. Paragoso presented her research in the Coastal Resource section, titled “Biochemical and Antioxidant Properties of the Red Seaweed Gracilaria changii in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, with Notes on its Morpho-molecular Identification.” Her study provided valuable insight into the importance of Morpho-molecular identification, especially for seaweeds with high phenotypic plasticity, and it also provided preliminary data on the biochemical and antioxidant profile of G. changii
