In pursuit of excellence in delivering holistic education, the Department of Technology and Livelihood Education (DTLED) and the Future Educators’ Guild (FEG) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon) joined forces with the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Panaon to organize an informative seminar about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), HIV-AIDS Awareness, and the Rational Use of Medications last February 14, 2025.

AMORE: Awareness, Motivation, Outreach, Relationships, and Education for HIV Awareness is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge on the risks, prevention, and proper management of STIs, including HIV-AIDS, as well as the importance of responsible medication use.

Two distinguished speakers led the seminar: Mr. Fritz Rozzel Arabe, a seasoned nurse, and Mrs. Juven Austia Baluca, an experienced pharmacist. Their discussions underscored the pivotal role of awareness in preventing the spread of STIs and HIV-AIDS.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Baluca delved into the proper use of medications, emphasizing the dangers of self-medication, antibiotic resistance, and the misuse of prescription drugs. She educated students on the significance of following medical prescriptions and seeking professional consultation before taking medication. Her discussion aimed to promote rational drug use and prevent health complications caused by misinformation and negligence. The interactive nature of the seminar fostered active participation, allowing participants to engage in a Q&A session where they could ask questions and clarify concerns about STIs, HIV-AIDS, and medication safety.

Mr. Arabe provided an in-depth discussion on the transmission, symptoms, and prevention of STIs and HIV-AIDS. He also highlighted the importance of safe practices, early detection, and accessible healthcare services in combating these infections. Furthermore, he urged attendees to challenge the stigma associated with HIV-AIDS and to offer support and care to those impacted by the condition.

The seminar concluded with a strong call to action: “Isip Isip Before you Unzip.” The seminar strongly defines USTP’s commitment to fostering quality and holistic education to attain a healthier and more responsible community.
