In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and service, the Sowers Field Community, with the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, as a proud member, organized a meaningful gift-giving initiative at Habitat Campus, Indahag Elementary School. The event, held on December 23, 2024, brought joy and much-needed support to the community, reinforcing the university’s mission of fostering social responsibility and uplifting lives through education.
The outreach initiative, which aligns with USTP’s advocacy for community development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), focused on providing food packs, slippers, and rice to 280 students from Grades 1 to 3. Indahag Elementary School, an educational institution for families relocated after Typhoon Sendong, plays a vital role in the local community.
During the event, Dr. Cultura addressed the students, teachers, and parents, emphasizing the importance of education and shared responsibility in building stronger communities. Reflecting on the initiative, he shared:
“Usually, every Christmas, we do these activities to share blessings, especially with the children. I feel happy, too, seeing smiles on their faces because I was once like these children.”
The teachers, students, and parents expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting how the gesture made a tangible difference in the lives of the children.
This event underscores USTP’s commitment to extending its values beyond the university’s walls. While USTP is known for its innovative academic programs and industry partnerships, initiatives like these highlight the university’s holistic approach to education, integrating community development and social impact.
As USTP continues to drive its mission of transforming lives through science, technology, and innovation, it remains steadfast in supporting efforts that uplift local communities. Dr. Cultura’s participation in this initiative exemplifies how leadership rooted in service can inspire hope and create lasting positive change.
